Do It Yourself!
WHERE TO START:
Taking on a hardscaping project can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be! Here are some key points to keep in mind as you begin your DIY journey. Gather as much information as possible about your project, the space, and its intended uses. This will help our Pavingstone Supply team assist you more effectively, minimizing any unexpected challenges.
- SHAPE: Define the overall layout.
- ELEVATION: Note the high and low points of the site, including any variations in wall heights if applicable.
- SIZE: Measure and record the dimensions in square feet, including linear feet for borders or cap stones. Consider whether stairs are necessary.
A simple line drawing of the project area, showing dimensions and elevations, can be very helpful. Calculate the total square footage for walls, pavers, and stones as needed; it doesn’t have to be detailed—simplicity works. Taking photos of the area from different angles can also provide useful context.
NEXT STEPS:
With an overview of your project in place, it’s time to focus on the details. Consider the following elements as you develop your vision:
- Shapes
- Colors
- Materials
- Appearance
- Functionality
- Ambiance
- Budget
